چکیده

PhotoAcoustic Tomography (PAT) uses light to create sound sources (by heat generated on optical absorption) and image reconstruction consists of an inverse acoustic source reconstruction, which can be done using conventional ultrasound methods. In order to quantify the optical properties underlying the sound generation it is necessary to couple models for optical and acoustic propagation. In this talk I present some of our recent work on this problem, utilizing a non-linear algorithm for recovering optical absorption coefficient. Joint work with Ben Cox, Paul Beard 2. Inverse problems of combined photoacoustic and optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and photoacoustic tomography are emerging non-invasive biological and medical imaging techniques. It is a recent trend in experimental science to design experiments that perform photoacoustic tomography and OCT imaging at once. In this paper, we present a mathematical model describing the dual experiment. Because OCT is mathematically modelled by Maxwell's equ...

Quantitative photoacoustic imaging of two-photon absorption.

Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a hybrid imaging modality where we intend to reconstruct optical properties of heterogeneous media from measured ultrasound signals generated by the photoacoustic effect. In recent years, there have been considerable interests in using PAT to image two-photon absorption, in addition to the usual single-photon absorption, inside diffusive media. We present a mat...

Artifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality

Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...

Quantitative Fluorescence Photoacoustic Tomography

Fluorescence photoacoustic tomography (fPAT) is a multi-modality biomedical imaging technique that combines the high-resolution ultrasound imaging with the highcontrast fluorescence optical tomography. In the first step of fPAT, one utilizes the photoacoustic effect to recover the total absorbed energy map inside the media with ultrasound tomography. In the second step, called quantitative fPAT...

Mathematics of Photoacoustic and Thermoacoustic Tomography

This is the manuscript of the chapter for a planned Handbook of Mathematical Methods in Imaging that surveys the mathematical models, problems, and algorithms of the Thermoacoustic (TAT) and Photoacoustic (PAT) Tomography. TAT and PAT represent probably the most developed of the several novel “hybrid” methods of medical imaging. These new modalities combine different physical types of waves (el...
